Things you might like to know about SEO

Is SEO all about Google?

SEO isn't just about Google, though Google still dominates search engine market share. Several other search platforms matter significantly for your online visibility. Bing plays an important role, particularly in desktop searches and through Microsoft products. DuckDuckGo attracts privacy-focused users, while Yahoo maintains steady usage in specific regions.

AI has transformed search behavior. ChatGPT and similar AI chatbots offer new ways for people to find information. Microsoft's combination of ChatGPT with Bing has created something different from traditional search, pushing Google to respond with Bard and SGE (Search Generative Experience). Specialised AI search tools also keep appearing for specific industries.

Good SEO now means creating quality, original content that performs well everywhere. Your writing should sound natural and conversational to work with AI chatbots while still following technical SEO best practices. Voice search grows more common each year, so optimising for it matters too. While Google remains crucial, spreading SEO efforts across multiple search platforms helps you connect with more potential visitors.

What are the different types of SEO?

There are four types of SEO that work together to improve your website's visibility in search results:

Technical SEO ensures your website's foundation is solid and search-engine friendly. This includes optimising loading speeds, making your site mobile-responsive, implementing proper URL structures, and securing your site with HTTPS. It's the backbone of your website's performance and crucial for search rankings.

On-Page SEO focuses on optimising individual webpage content. This includes crafting engaging titles and meta descriptions, using proper heading structures, and creating quality content that matches what people are searching for. Good on-page SEO helps both search engines and users understand what your pages are about.

Off-Page SEO builds your website's authority through backlinks from other reputable websites. When trusted sites link to yours, search engines view your site as more credible. This includes strategies like getting listed in business directories, participating in local events, and building relationships with other businesses.

Local SEO helps your business appear in location-specific searches. This involves managing your Google Business Profile, maintaining consistent business information across online directories, and optimising for local search terms to appear in map results and local listings.

At happypath, we specialise in all four types of SEO, building them directly into your website from day one. Our websites score exceptionally well on Google's ranking criteria, and we handle all the technical complexities so you can focus on running your business. For just $399 per month, you get a fully managed website that's optimised for search engines from the ground up. Ready to improve your search rankings? Should I run Google Ads or invest in SEO?

The best answer is often both. SEO and Google Ads serve different purposes and can work together effectively for your business.

Google Ads offers immediate visibility. This makes it particularly valuable when launching a new website or promoting time-sensitive offers.

SEO, while slower to show results, builds long-term organic visibility without ongoing advertising costs. It requires consistent effort in creating quality content, optimising your website technically, and building authority through backlinks. The benefits compound over time, potentially providing steady traffic without the per-click costs of advertising.

However, Google Ads requires careful management to avoid becoming a 'money pit if not managed correctly.' You need someone who understands how to target the right searches and optimise campaigns for conversions, not just clicks.

The smartest approach is often to use both: Google Ads for immediate traffic while building your SEO foundation for long-term success. This is exactly what happypath specialises in. We can build you a technically optimised website with strong SEO foundations, and manage your Google Ads campaigns with transparent pricing and no hidden fees. Both services work together to maximise your online visibility and convert searches into actual business.

What's the difference between website relevance and website authority?

Website relevance and authority are two distinct signals that search engines use to rank your website.

Relevance is about how well your website content matches what people are searching for. Think of two local bakeries: one has a basic website with just their address and a picture of a donut, while another has detailed product descriptions, baking techniques, recipes and interesting articles about baking. The second bakery website demonstrates higher relevance because it offers comprehensive, quality content that directly relates to what potential customers want to know about baking.

Authority, on the other hand, is about how trustworthy and credible your website appears to search engines. This is largely determined by other websites linking to yours. For example, if a well-known chef's website links to your bakery site, that's a strong signal of authority because it's an endorsement from a respected source in your industry. In contrast, a link from an unrelated local business carries less authority weight.

The key difference is that relevance you can control through your own content creation, while authority typically requires recognition from others in the form of quality backlinks. You need both to rank well in search results.

At happypath, we build websites that excel in both areas. We create technically optimised sites with quality content that demonstrates clear relevance to your business area, while also helping you build authority through proper structure and implementation and using our industry contacts to get backlinks to your pages.

Why does getting back links help your search engine position?

Backlinks help your rankings because Google uses them to determine your website's authority. When reputable websites link to your content, it acts like a vote of confidence in Google's eyes. The more high-quality, relevant websites that link to yours, the more Google sees your site as authoritative and trustworthy. This authority, combined with having relevant content, helps determine your position in search results. However, not all backlinks are equal - links from spammy sites or unrelated content can actually harm your rankings, which is why it's important to focus on earning legitimate backlinks from reputable sources in your industry.

Can I just build back links myself?

You technically can create backlinks yourself, but you shouldn't. Google is smart at detecting artificial link building. If you create your own network of websites just to link back to your main site (known as Private Blog Networks or PBNs), this is considered manipulative. While it might work temporarily, Google can detect these patterns and when they do, they can penalize your site severely or even remove it from search results completely. The whole point of backlinks is that they're meant to be genuine endorsements of your content. When you create your own backlinks, it's like writing fake reviews for your own business. Google wants to see natural, organic links from legitimate, relevant websites that chose to link to you because they found your content valuable.

With our contacts we can build you backlinks from related and reputable websites whatever your business type.

Should I buy back links from fiverr? They're cheaper than your SEO service.

Buying backlinks from Fiverr is a risky move that can seriously damage your website's search rankings. While these services might seem like a cheap and easy shortcut, they typically provide links from low-quality, spammy websites that exist solely to sell backlinks. Google is very good at detecting these artificial link schemes.

When Google spots these purchased links (and they usually do), they can penalize your site heavily. Your website might suddenly drop way down in search results or disappear entirely. Getting rid of a Google penalty is extremely difficult - you'd need to identify all the bad links, try to remove them, and then submit a reconsideration request to Google. Sometimes the damage is so severe that businesses have to start over with a completely new domain.

A better approach is focusing on earning legitimate backlinks through genuine relationships and valuable content. This could mean networking with other businesses in your industry, creating content worth sharing, participating in local business events, or getting involved in your community. Yes, it takes more time and effort than buying links on Fiverr, but it builds lasting authority that won't put your website at risk. Of course you don't need to do this as this is what we can do for you. Our existing network of contacts and websites allows us to acquire links from reputable and relevant websites around the world.
